"Chat up the differences between the books and the series with other Vampire Diaries fans right here!"I wonder why they went with a brother for Elena instead of a little sister. 11 out of 13 found this valuable. Do you? |

Probably for plot lines. With a teen brother it opens up a lot more possibilities than a pre-teen sister.

Elena is supposed to be blond, she's supposed to have a baby sister.. umm.. her psychic friend is supposed to be descended from the ppl from Stonehenge, not the Salem witches.. Damon has come into the show soo early!..idk everything is wrong! I HATE IT!!

"I think the books were better but the show is pretty good too"I think it's really sad what they did to the story. Part of what made the book so great were her friends, Bonne and Meredith. Bonnie is nonexistent on the show besides the name and that she's a witch and where is Meredith? They gave her an older brother rather than a baby sister because they need more story lines but they're taking away a lot of the book that had me in tears. To me this show has nothing to do with the book. Everything is differrent from the very beginning. I loved in the book how at first Stefan fought his attraction by completely ignoring Elena. I think they just took the idea of the book and stole the title. To me it's far from authentic and only time will tell if it's going to be better than the book or not. 7 out of 14 found this valuable. Do you? |

I think that the show premieres in Australia on monday, and I am definatley going ot check it out but I am not a huge fan of watching shows based on books that I haven't read first so I have just ordered the first two. They will not arrive on time though so I will be watching the first episode with no idea of whats going on. Reading the above comments that may be a good idea with this series as they appear to have changed a lot.

I read the books and am now watching the tv series and it is a total disappointment if you expect it to follow the book...they casted most of the people really wrong like elena having brown hair instead of blonde?? and bonnie is a colored girl with dark hair instead of a pale skinned girl with red hair. The show is totally different than the book it just follows the "GENERAL" main point. it kinda stinks =(

Well i watched the series first... which is kinda a bad idea but i fell in love with it. Then i started to read the series just now...it felt like i was reading the wrong book! They were completely different! I like both but theyre not really the same. I love the actors though! So hot! Im confused though. Is her name Elaina or Elena? In the Tv series they always say Elaina but in the book its Elena like Helena. So they changed her name?

Everyone should really calm down about how different the two are. The exact words promoting the show were "BASED ON THE" book series...not identical to it.

Ppl like myself r upset becuz, the whole reason their is a show is based on the popularity of the books. The books already have such a huge fanbase. We were like cool, we get to see it as a show now, and its not even close. Im watching latest episode now, Catherine didnt start off as being evil, only reason she become a vampire is becuz she was dying and her nurse/maid had her turned. I wont give the reason she changed away, but Everything is soo wrong. The saddest part in the book is btw Elena and her baby sister. I cried like a baby. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I mean heck they did that with harry potter and I love the books and the last movie wasn't my favorite but it was ok if you are the type of fan that just watches the movies. I love the show and hopefully once the show is done I will dig into the book. I have the first one but I don't want to spoil it for myself on what happens. Only time will tell what happens in mystic falls. 5 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

I read the books before I ever watch a movie or tv show so I haven't seen the tv show yet. I'm going to today! From what I've heard though is that the tv series is completely different from the book, but I hear the show is really good. i can't wait! But I agree with you. Never in history has the tv or movie based on a book been the exact same. They change what they can to make the movie or show as interesting as possible. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

I hope you enjoyed teh books, i thinking the show was changed to make it more modern day, the books where written almost 20 years ago. i like it cos it feels like the books are a alternate reality... it would be boring if the shows was exactly like the books.
