The Original Characters

Elena Gilbert

Original Elena Gilbert
The original Elena Gilbert was not like the Elena Gilbert you see on television. She was blue-eyed, blond-haired, and she was the queen of her school. She was outgoing and she went after what she wanted. She first laid her eyes on Stefan and decided she had to have him no matter what the cost. She didn't cringe away when she discovered Stefan was a vampire. She embraced it. She forgave him and accepted it. Also, she didn't have a brother named Jeremy and Matt never stopped loving her. But, like on television, she loved BOTH Damon and Stefan in different ways, and that got her killed.. twice. But she came back from the dead.. twice. She had never been adopted and she was in NO way related to Katherine. THAT is Elena Gilbert, although Nina Dobrev has a nice portrayal of Elena.

Stefan Salvatore
The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle

The original Stefan Salvatore
was like the Stefan Salvatore you see on television. He had dazzling green eyes and a mysterious smile. He had always not let himself feed on humans. He saw Elena and realized he had to protect her... from himself because she looked so identical to Katherine. But then he couldn't help himself the night of the dance, from saving her from Tyler, because he had to protect her from everyone, not just himself. He was quite handsome (Paul meets those standards!) and had a great personality, which is a different subject on the show and in the books. One problem I've noticed people have with the show is that they think Stefan is .. boring, or at least not as interesting as in the books. That isn't Paul Wesley's fault though. He has a perfect portrayal of the character!

Damon Salvatore

The Vampire Diaries Book Series - The Vampire Diaries
The original Damon Salvatore is almost exactly like the Damon you see on the television. His hair is black as is also his eyes. He is always questioned about his goodness and is usually suspected on doing something. Elena believes he is misunderstood, and in The Fury and Dark Reunion he shows that he is capable of loyalty and affection. He constantly tells Stefan he is going to kill him yet he always ends up saving him when something bad happens to Stefan. He enjoys to make fun of mortals shown that he calls Matt, 'Mat'(Mortal Annoying Thing) until he figures out that he has two Ts in his name. He then starts calling him Mutt (Mortally Unable To Talk.) He never seems to take danger too seriously since he probably thinks he can't die.
