Mini-synopsis:

With Damon "safely" kept in the downstairs dungeon, Stefan tries to put his relationship back together with Elena and move on with his life. However, that proves to be difficult as Damon doesn't take his new imprisonment well. After missing a date with Elena, Stefan makes it up with some Italian food and a good Q and A session where Stefan starts to open up about Katherine. Elena accidentally cuts her finger and Stefan has to fight down his vampire instincts. She catches a glimpse of his demon-like eyes in the reflection in the window, but then chalks it up to a hallucination.

Caroline seems back to her normally bossy, popular self now that Damon is out of the picture. She's organizing a Sexy Suds car wash where all the main characters are involved. Damon calls out to her several times but is finally able to control her in the middle of the car wash. She abandons her post and goes to the house to rescue him, as if under a trance. Cousin Zach tries to stop her and is rewarded with a broken neck. Damon escapes and Caroline returns home shook up and unsure of why she keeps having time lapses. It's also revealed that she has Katherine's necklace...she took it from Damon because she thought he was going to give it to her.

Meanwhile at the car wash, Elena and Stefan are having relationship "issues" when Stefan shuts down about his past. They see an old man there who recognized Stefan from the night before...though Stefan just played it off. Elena asks the old man some more questions and finds out that he stayed at the Salvatore boarding house in the 1950s. The caretaker, a Salvatore relative, was killed by an "animal" while Stefan was staying there. According to the old man, Stefan hasn't aged a day since.

Bonnie has some fun with her powers by paying back a mean girl with a psychically sent face-full of water. Later she seems to be under a trance and lights an entire car on fire. At the end of the episode, it's revealed that she goes to her grandmother's house to seek advice.

Vicki and Jeremy are officially together, which Elena finds out by running into her in the hall one morning. Vicki takes him to party with some of her druggie friends in the cemetery and she shows off that she stole some of Elena's pain pills (prescribed after the accident). Jeremy gets mad and they have a fight about her ambitions in life. He leaves her to party and storms off.

Elena talks to Aunt Jenna's former flame, the tv reporter, who is at the car wash and convinces him to help her investigate the old news story from the 1950s. He takes her to the news station where old footage has recently been digitized. She locates the story about the Salvatore home and on the footage she sees Stefan standing in the shadows...looking exactly like he does now. She is shocked and starts to piece together everything when she gets home. She writes in her diary about her discovery.

Vicki, still in the woods, heads to her car to get something. There is someone standing next to her hood, coughing. She asks if he is okay and he says to come closer. She steps forward hesitantly and then the figure, Damon, reaches forward and bites her on the neck to regain his strength. Is this the end for Vicki?
